Yet another retrospective of things I enjoyed consuming over the course of a month. Because the months will just vaporize if we don’t record the beautiful ways we spend our time.

Robin LaMer Rahija’s debut poetry collection, Inside Out Egg- With a Bonnie “Prince” Billy epigraph, this book was after my heart from page zero. So many wild and cheeky subjects—from Breaking News headlines to the complex nature of long relationships, but also knives, and what it’s like just existing in society today—crash against each other in this pitch-perfect collection of wit and wisdom. Get your copy directly from the press, as is the proper thing to do these days. Variant Lit, this way.

Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway Forever- My husband turned 50! So, we went to our favorite spot to celebrate, and now I owe you, dear reader, two write-ups of two motorcycle trips—one from April was already in the queue. We rode and hiked in the mist and fog. Our view was obscured when we dined at the Chalet Restaurant, but the waterfall we visited was pouring buckets. 5/5 for 5-0.
My own tears at high school graduation- This goes out to all the mamas of neurodivergent kiddos. These milestones just hit us a little different, I believe. I cried out of joy, pride, and sadness (for my child is moving about the world a little more independently these days, and one day I really won’t be needed!). We didn’t know if he would complete his credits on time (but he did!) or whether he would be interested in sitting through a boring ceremony to honor a system he hardly has much respect for, but he did. The main thing is that the finish line has been crossed, and we are celebrating still.
Thanks for reading. I would love to know what you’re consuming during this transitional and busy time.
